We are currently seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Family Law Clerk to join our dynamic team.
This position will be partially remote and partially in person, part-time during the school year and full time in the summer. In the summer, the position will be in the office 3 days per week. This is a paid position. An office-issued Mac laptop will be provided, and on site parking is available. We are also metro accessible. This position is non-exempt.
Position Overview:
As a Family Law Clerk at Markham Law Firm, you will play a crucial role in supporting our attorneys and ensuring the efficient operation of our family law practice. Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
Conduct legal research and prepare legal memoranda
Prepare blog posts for the Firm’s website
Review, analyze, organize, scan, copy, and file documents
Answer and make telephone calls
Send correspondence to clients and attorneys
Attend Firm trainings and webinars
Take careful notes when attending mediations, depositions, court hearings, and Firm meetings
Deliver and pick up filings from the Circuit Court for Montgomery County, Maryland and DC Superior Court
File maintenance on cloud server
Draft simple correspondence
Inventory discovery documents
Elicit and maintain records from clients for discovery
Prepare trial exhibits and summaries
Other tasks as assigned
Skills & Abilities:
Punctual, dependable and reliable
Outstanding legal research, grammar and proofreading skills
Able to multi-task with a “do it now” approach
Highly organized with strong attention to detail
Compassionate, empathetic and patient
Customer service driven
Proficiency with Microsoft Office and the Mac Operating System
Ability to lift 20 lbs
Required Education and Work Experience:
Incoming third year law students only (3L)
Spanish language a plus
Background in social work, psychology, or accounting/financial a plus
Compensation and Benefits:
Paid hourly at $25/hour
Paid parking
401k plan (based on eligibility requirements)
